As we recognize that everyone has a different learning style, our teachers engage every child through the five senses and a hybrid of the literacy and thematic approach combined with project work.
Literacy Approach - In our advanced world today, being literate is perhaps the most important key to opening doors to the world. Children at Star Learners are guided through a rigorous programme on reading and writing at the earliest possible point of the child's readiness.
Thematic Approach - Reading and writing is reinforced and made interesting in the context of themes that broaden general knowledge.
Project work - Topics are explored more deeply during project work while simultaneously opening opportunities for hands-on team work and extended discussion.
With these approaches, Star Learners children grow in curiosity, competence and creativity.

Our Learning Outcomes are designed based on MOE's framework which helps ensure that we understand each and every child's progress in his/her developmental journey.
With the support and expert implementation of the Star Learners developmental framework, the learning outcomes are specific and age appropriate. Parents of present and graduate students can testify that their children blossom under the nurture of our teachers during their time in the centre. Developed and stretched, Star Learners children emerge from their preschool years able to read and write bilingually and have a comprehensive grasp of numeracy. They make sound decisions and have a developed understanding of self and the world around them. Come visit our centre and observe first-hand our school philosophy to build "Confident, Creative Children with Character" in action.

Teachers at Star Learners are qualified in early childhood and pedagogical education. They are effective communicators, practiced at being creative and are professional in their approach. We select teachers who are unafraid to take up the committed role of counsellor and mentor. Their personal modelling toward lifelong learning and amiable personalities immediately put both parent and child at ease.

Both spatial and learning environments are a complimentary pair of essential factors to the operating of the school's framework.
The physical environment is immediately observed upon entering the premises. Many parents have noted that our centres are clean and well organized, spacious and airy. Parents will be pleased with the standards of hygiene especially of the toilets and kitchens in all our centres. Safety around our centres is also a top priority for us.
The environment is conducive to the absorption of interesting lessons. In our
Star Learners classrooms, active discussions take place alongside sound teaching.
This learning environment encourages critical thinking and develops confidence
in all our children. It extends outside the boundaries of school, when field
trips bring Science and Humanity lessons to life and social service trips open
doors to life's lessons. Our children start at a high score by the time they
begin formal schooling in P1.

The child's first and most lasting relationship in life is with his parents. Star Learners staff understands how vital this is and closes the gap that parents often feel when their child begins going to school. Regular and frequent reports with suggestions on follow-up activities update parents to create a continual flow between the two crucial groups of teachers and parents. Newsletters, photographs, parent-teacher meetings and informal chats, all contribute to the close ties that are often formed between teacher and parent to the advantage of the Star Learners child. |

Simply telling children what is right or wrong is not character
education. In reality, it only imposes a set of rules, rewards
or punishments that result in temporary and limited change.
It does not affect the underlying character of the child.
Through our bespoke Character Education, which integrates character development into school life, Star Learners will give your child the very best advantage to embrace good character for himself, which will last through life.
What we do at Star Learners
- Classroom time for character development through our very own Star Learners Character Coach, ‘Stanley™ Starfish’
- School life is organized around the relationships among students, staff and community
- Social and emotional learning is emphasized as much as academic learning
- Cooperation and collaboration is emphasized over competition
- Students are given opportunities to practice sound values e.g. through social service, a buddies programme, role playing etc
In this safe, inclusive environment, your child will be supported toward reaching his potential in all aspects of his life. It lays the foundation of satisfaction, success and security for your precious child. This foundation begins at Star Learners.
Star Learners – Where character is not just taught, but caught.
Literacy is very important to the Star Learners philosophy as is a good numeric foundation. We entrust our precious students only to the best programmes which our teachers are trained to implement effectively.

Test score evidence for those using Growing with Mathematics has shown positive outcomes and an increased number sense. Like MOE’s primary school Math programme, Growing with Math is also language based involving problem solving skills.
Engaging hands-on activities develops computation and skill development. This helps maintain the balance between concepts and skills. Connections are made between Math and the real world in this integrated programme. Opportunities for collaboration and discussion, allow the students to reflect and digest new information. All these aspects help build the understanding of mathematical concepts bringing our students to preparedness for Math in primary school.

Developed by experienced educator, Sue Lloyd, in the late 1990s, Jolly Phonics has been advocated successfully in the UK and other parts of the world. It applies the synthetic phonics system.
Jolly Phonics builds the student up in readiness for literacy. This phonics programme gears the new reader toward blending, identifying sounds in words and spelling tricky words in an enjoyable, multi-sensory way. Children see the symbol, listen to the sound, say the sound and accompany this by doing an action. The variety of resources to support and engage students, include puppets, videos, puzzles and big books. In additional, there is also Jolly Jingles, created by Arlene Grierson, using familiar songs and a big book to reinforce the phonics sounds.

Reading contributes to literacy and Star Learners has the best resources in Rigby Rocket Reader. Every book has a set of specially written notes focusing on key vocabulary and letters sounds. Reading strategies encompassing word count, high frequency words and content word focus help the reader to associate sound patterns and the printed symbol.
Fiction and non-fiction writings prompt discussions and are designed to develop reading confidence and emotional awareness. A wide range of group and extension activities, games and rhymes accompany the reading experience and extends even to possibilities of dramatization and role playing in this well known reader series. |
