We turn Twenty!

From a single centre in Eunos in 2003, to 43 centres island-wide today.

Little by little, over the past 20 years, we have welcomed new families, bade farewell to over 5,000 graduates and supported countless families through their children’s early years.

In these years, we have also built a team of more than 600 – educators, centre leaders, support staff and corporate functions – who dedicate their days to ensuring we continue to provide the best care and education for our children.

We have much to celebrate. Thank you for joining us on our journey and inspiring us in raising heroes of tomorrow.

A Star is Born

Opened our very first centre at
Jalan Yasin, Eunos, with 9 staff and 35 children under our care.

2010

Rising Star

Expanded steadily, opening our 5th centre at Pasir Ris, building a strong foundation for further growth.

6 Years with Star Learners

One of my proudest moments was when I was promoted to the position of Senior Educator and received a nomination for the Professional Development Programme (Teachers).

These recognitions have underscored the clear avenues for career advancement and professional growth within Star Learners. It's incredibly gratifying to see that the hard work and dedication I've invested are genuinely valued, reinforcing my belief that Star Learners fosters an environment where progress is encouraged.

The Star Learners community is marked by a warm, caring and approachable culture. I get a lot of support from our curriculum team and other teachers who readily share their knowledge. This supportive environment truly fuels learning and growth for all. Achieving the Star Awards 2023 stands as my proudest moment, thanks to the unwavering support and belief by my mentor and principal, Ms Diana Ezra. Her trust and encouragement prompted me to step out of my comfort zone, taking on new roles within the centre and shaping me into the educator I am today. This recognition made me realise my untapped potential and the incredible things I can accomplish with the right mentorship and resources.

I am grateful for the lasting relationships that I have built with the children and their parents even after they have graduated. When they come back to visit, it is always a joy to see how much they have grown.

Once, an alumni’s younger sibling joined our centre many years after his brother’s graduation. His parents said, “Sabrina, we are bringing you your nightmare 2.0”. Moments like these make my job very fulfilling.

When I acquired the first Star Learners centre back in 2003, I knew I wanted to see it grow beyond just one centre… but I never could have predicted just how big we would get!

I believe businesses need to grow, and that allows its people to grow. It has been incredibly fulfilling to see young(er) people spending years here, learning new skills, taking on leadership positions and watching them go on to develop others. It is the ultimate testament to our growth-oriented philosophy. For those who have just joined us, I, hand on heart, truly believe that Star Learners is a special place. Know that we’ll always be there to support you and help you grow, while also giving you the space to explore and take on new challenges.

One of my most memorable accomplishments was being recognised for my creativity. As someone with a strong affinity for the arts, being recognised for my creativity with the Star Awards last year has given me a boost of confidence and encouraged me to take risks in exploring new avenues.

Star Learners holds a special place in my heart as it feels like being part of a large, supportive family. I have been fortunate with the opportunities offered to me and seen my perspectives expand and grow. I take pride in the person I have become and I owe it all to Star Learners!

The implementation of our literature-based curriculum was a significant moment for me. It felt like a major project that we would continuously develop to become a signature of Star Learners… I had a lot to learn and dissect from it.

Over the years, I had the opportunity to teach almost every level, which provided me with valuable insights into its development through different stages. I count myself a firm lover and believer of our literature-based curriculum; I see how our children have benefited from such a learning approach and it has also helped me find deeper meaning and purpose in what I do.

The warm and welcoming environment here has contributed to my growth, with leaders and mentors providing guidance in the curriculum and giving emotional support. Getting to plan and execute my first excursion alongside different stakeholders is one of my most rewarding experiences so far. Such experiences are key to my personal growth, helping me become a better educator and team player.

The preschool sector is grappling with a significant shortage of teachers, but the government is taking steps to address this issue, such as increasing salaries for graduates in early childhood education. As part of my role, retaining the educators at the centres we acquire is vital.

It is very heartening to see these staff members continue their early childhood education journey with us. We have a good number of them who have stayed on after our acquisitions, and have even grown with us to take on leadership positions in the organisation!

I was given the opportunity to set up and launch our company’s Intranet, a platform which was instrumental in improving communication, efficiency and collaboration amongst our colleagues. Through working on this project, I gained a deeper appreciation of Star Learners’ culture of teamwork, as I felt every one’s sense of commitment to achieving our common goal. Working alongside various departments and centres and getting inspired by each other to bring IT projects like the Intranet to fruition — those made for many fulfilling moments in my course of work.

There was a Clean Up song which we would sing in class as we kept away our toys. I still remember this song up till today! Even after I graduated, I kept in contact with the teachers (Bi Laoshi, Ms Jasmine, Ms Ann, Ms Mislina) and would return to visit sometimes. I always looked forward to the enrichment classes like Gym, which piqued my interest in gymnastics. I continued to develop this area of interest after leaving Star Learners and proceeded to train externally. I'm proud to share that I was awarded Levels Athlete of the Year in Rhythmic Gymnastics, at the Singapore Gymnastics Annual Awards Dinner 2019!

I remember the fun we had in school, during birthday parties and special occasions. We even had a memorable garden themed party with the teachers, other children and their families, in a fully-decorated garden at Star Learners Branksome!

I really enjoyed the different approach to learning I experienced at Star Learners. I remember one particular lesson where instead of reading the story of 3 Little Pigs, my classmates and I all wore masks of the different characters and acted out the story together!

Our preschool journey was really fun and memorable. One of the best times was when we got to swim together in a big inflatable pool! We hope that Star Learners will always have amazing teachers and be a place where children can make awesome memories and friends, just like we did!
